Who we are

I am David Nadaski, an independent game developer.

This policy covers the two websites I run from a single server: https://horugame.com, the site named HŌRU, and https://glassbeaver.com. Together they are called “the Site” below.

The short version

The Site sets no cookies, keeps no access log, and never stores your IP address. There are no accounts, no logins, no advertising, and no third-party analytics. Two things are recorded, both described below, and neither one identifies you or can be traced back to you.

What is recorded

Page statistics. When you open a page on the Site – an article, a tutorial, the archive, the homepage, the feed, or these policy pages – one row is added to a database on my server containing the address of the page, the date and time, a two-letter country code, the referring address if your browser sent one, and whether your browser identifies itself as a mobile browser.

The country code is worked out from your IP address by looking it up in a database file stored on my own server. Your address is used for that lookup in memory and then discarded. It is not written to disk, not logged, and not sent to anyone. No cookie, identifier, or fingerprint is involved, so nothing links one visit to the next, or one page to another. These rows are a count of what gets read, and nothing more.

Game file counters. Each game file served from https://glassbeaver.com/dropdungeon/ has a running total. That table has exactly two columns: the address of the file, and a number that counts up. Nothing about who requested it is recorded – not your address, not your browser, not even the time.

Static files and downloads are not recorded at all.

What is not done

• No cookies are set. See the Cookie Policy.
• No access log is kept, so there is no record of which visitor requested which page.
• Your IP address is not stored.
• There are no accounts, passwords, carts, or payments.
• There is no advertising, no ad network, no tracking pixel, no tag manager, no session recording, and no heatmap.
• There is no Google Analytics or any other third-party analytics service.
• Nothing is ever sold, rented, or traded to anyone.

Comments

Comments are closed. The form has been removed and the endpoint that accepted them is switched off, so no new comment can be submitted.

Comments approved before they closed are still published on a handful of articles. Each one shows the display name the commenter chose to give, which was optional, and the text they wrote. If a commenter supplied an email address, which was also optional, it is held in the database and has never been displayed on the Site. It was used only to generate the avatar described under third-party content below.

If you left a comment and would like it or your email address removed, email me and I will delete it.

Newsletter

The sign-up form on the homepage submits your email address directly to Mailchimp, operated by Intuit, who run the mailing list. It does not pass through my server and is not stored there. What Mailchimp does with it is governed by their own privacy policy. Every email includes an unsubscribe link.

Content loaded from other companies

A few pages pull content from servers I do not run. When that happens your browser contacts those companies directly, which tells them your IP address, your browser identification, and which page you were on. What they do with that is governed by their policies, not mine.

• The articles that have comments show avatar images from Gravatar, operated by Automattic. Their privacy policy is available at https://automattic.com/privacy/.
• Some articles embed images and albums from Imgur.
• The page at /dx12-gpus-data/ is a mirrored copy of the Steam Hardware Survey and loads scripts, stylesheets, and images from Valve’s content delivery network.

The social links in the footer are ordinary links. Nothing is loaded from YouTube, Facebook, X, Mastodon, or Discord unless you click through to them.

DropDungeon

The game’s sounds, music, and images are served from https://glassbeaver.com/dropdungeon/ and counted as described above. When you play the game on CrazyGames, the game itself collects nothing: your progress is saved through the CrazyGames SDK, and any advertising is theirs. That part of your visit is covered by the CrazyGames privacy policy.

How long things are kept

The page statistics and the game file counters are kept indefinitely. Neither contains anything that identifies a person. Published comments and the email addresses attached to them are also kept indefinitely, until removal is requested. Nothing else is stored.

What rights you have over your data

If you are in the EEA or the UK, you have the right to ask for a copy of any personal data I hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it erased, and to object to how it is used.

In practice there is very little to ask about. The page statistics and file counters contain no identifier at all, so there is no way for me to find rows belonging to any particular person, and nothing there to export or erase. The one thing that can identify someone is an old comment and the email address supplied with it. Email me and I will remove it.

Children

The Site is written for adults working in game development and is not directed at children. No part of it asks a visitor for personal information.

How your information is protected

The Site is served over HTTPS. What little data exists is held in a database file on a server I control, and no third party holds a copy of it.

California Online Privacy Protection Act Notice

Do not track signals: HŌRU does not track users across the web and therefore does not need to act on “do not track” signals.

Advertising: HŌRU does not authorize the collection of personally identifiable information from users on any HŌRU website for third party use through advertising technologies.

Changes to this privacy policy

If this policy changes in a meaningful way, the ‘last updated’ date at the bottom of the page will be updated. Changes take effect when they are posted here.
